Port Washington -- The general citizenry can vote today on which Ozaukee County government officials should get the honor of sitting in a dunk tank for 15 minutes at the County Fair this Friday.
Until this week, only employees of the county's local governments could vote via the countywide intranet to put their favorite officials in peril of being doused.
Voting was opened to the public Monday and concludes today through the Ozaukee County Web site.
The dunk tank will be operating from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday as part of '"Local Government Night,'" which is intended to recognize the county's municipal and county employees.
The dunk tank will be near the fair's main gate. Three throws will cost $2. A '"skipper card,'" which allows a person to skip to the front of the line, will cost $5.
All money raised will go toward the restoration of the county courthouse in Port Washington.
The top 20 vote-getters will each spend 15 minutes in the dunking chair.
Monday afternoon, top vote-getters included Mary DeLuca of the county Public Health Department, Port Washington City Administrator Mark Grams, county Administrative Coordinator Tom Meaux, County Board Chairman Gus Wirth, Ozaukee County Sheriff Maury Straub, Belgium Village President Don '"Peanuts'" Schommer, County Clerk Mary Marchese, Cedarburg City Administrator Clint Gridley, Grafton Village Administrator Darrell Hofland, Cedarburg Mayor James Coutts and Thiensville Police Chief Richard Preston.
To vote, visit www.co. ozaukee.wi.us/CountyFair/ AllStarDunkFest.htm. Votes also can be entered by e-mail at hrdept@co.ozaukee.wi.us.5th Place.
